Supplications for illness and bereavement

Supplications for visiting the sick, for someone who has lost hope, and condolences.

Illness and bereavement are part of life; the prophetic tradition gives words for these difficult moments — visiting someone who is sick, and accompanying grief.

Lâ ba'sa, tahûrun in shâ'a l-lâhu.

Never mind, may it (the sickness) be a purification, if Allah wills.

As'alu l-lâha-l-`azîma, rabba-l-`arshi-l-`azîmi, an yashfiyaka.

I ask Allah The Supreme, Lord of the magnificent throne to cure you’.(7times) (he (the sick person) will be cured.).

Allâhumma ghfir lî, wa rhamnî, wa alhiqnî bi-r-rafîqi-l-a`lâ.

‘O Allaah, forgive me, have mercy upon me and unite me with the highest companions.

Innâ li-l-lâhi wa innâ ilayhi râji`una. Allahumma 'jurnî musîbatî wa khluf lî khayran minhâ.

To Allah we belong and unto Him is our return.O Allah, recompense me for my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Inna li-l-lâhi mâ akhadha wa li-l-lâhi mâ a`tâ, wa kullu shay'in `indahu bi-ajalin musammân... Fa-l-tasbir wa-l-tahtasib.

A`zama l-lâhu ajraka, wa ahsana `azâ'ka, wa ghafara li-mayyitika.

To Allah belongs what He has taken, and to Him belongs what He has given, and everything has its appointed term with Him. So be patient and seek reward from Allah.

May Allah increase your reward, grant you beautiful patience, and forgive your deceased.
